A Peek at the Week (Aug 17-23)

Showcases, new releases, and more!

Lucy James in lookingfor.game

Hey folks, happy Monday!

Thought I'd do something a little different this week and kick it off with a quick primer on things to watch out for this week in the world of indies, including sales, announcements, and, of course, new releases. Let's get into the week!

Game Releases

  • Missing Morrowind? The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an action RPG heavily inspired by the seminal classic
  • Or if classic JRPGs are more your bag, lead a band of mercenaries and take out a demonic threat in Entropy's early access release
  • Cozy vibes only: Help prep the forest for winter in Tukoni: Forest Keepers, an adorable puzzler filled with beautiful hand-drawn locations
  • So I started blastin': Explore an abandoned 1950s theme park and take out the haunted mascots that lie within it in Twisted Tower
  • Click and forget: Grow your kingdom at your own pace in Hearth and Hamlet
  • Just another day at the office: Feed the corporate maw with anything and everything you can in wacky physics-based sandbox, Project P.I.T.T.
  • Big release of the week: As of writing, ++Mortal Shell II++ is already off to a strong start in its advance access launch. If you've exhausted Elden Ring or are dying for Duskbloods, this is the one to try

Events

  • Pins & Pegs Fest (Aug 17-20) on Steam is about all things pins and pegs, so expect discounts on excellent games like BALL x PIT and Peglin, and new demos/announcements for upcoming obsessions like HYPERDROP (I've been playing it for the last week, and uh, yeah, it's going to become a problem)
  • Ukrainian Games Festival 2026 (Aug 17-24) is a wonderful celebration of games made in Ukraine. There are exclusive demos, new releases (including Tukoni: Forest Keepers, which I highlighted above!), and a bunch of games are on sale, like the Metro series
  • Epic's free game for the week is Caravan Sandwitch. Fire up your van and search for your missing sister in this narrative-driven adventure

Next week

Next week is Gamescom, so expect huge announcements at Opening Night Live and the Future Games Show, as well as mountains of coverage from folks at the show, including me!

Thanks for subscribing, and I'll see you in a couple of days!
